The North Carolina Stroke Association’s fifth annual bike tour, Cycle for Life...2008, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at the Hanover Park Vineyard in Yadkinville, N.C.  The event is a major fundraiser for the Stroke Association, and its proceeds support the NC Stroke Association’s Partnership Grant Program which provides grants to hospitals in the state as they implement stroke programs in their communities. Cycle for Life...2007 raised over $32,000, and this expanded the opportunities for grants to hospitals in 2008.

Through this program, hospitals throughout North Carolina may apply for funding to bring the North Carolina Stroke Association’s stroke prevention, education and post-stroke programs to their communities. Grants are awarded based on criteria such as a community’s stroke mortality rate and poverty level.

Community organizations volunteer their time to sit on the Cycle for Life...2008 planning committee. TriStone Community Bank, Robinson and Lawing, Mock Orange Bikes, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and Forsyth Medical Center serve as committee members, and each one support the tour with financial contributions as well with their advocacy throughout the community.

The fifth annual Cycle for Life...2008 includes tours of 65, 40 and 25 miles.  In addition, a one-mile walk for stroke survivors loops around the scenic Hanover Park Vineyard. Home-baked breakfast pastries are provided. Lunch and a wine tasting follow the tour.

Cyclists from North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, Virginia and West Virginia have been part of past the past tours, and most recently in 2007.
