The North Carolina Stroke Association SHAPE Award
Stroke Heroes Advocating Prevention and Education
In 2011, the North Carolina Stroke Association established the SHAPE award to honor health care providers and other advocates who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and passion for stroke prevention and education in North Carolina.
Dr. David Schmidt of Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, N.C. was the first SHAPE award recipient in 2011 followed by Marie Welch, a stroke nurse coordinator with Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C. in 2012.
If your hospital or organization would like to recommend an individual to receive the North Carolina Stroke Association SHAPE Award, please contact Beth Parks, NCSA Executive Director at [email protected].
Marie Welch received special recognition at the second statewide Stroke Heroes Advocating Prevention & Education (SHAPE) Award Event in Greenville, North Carolina in late October for her extraordinary service as a stroke champion in eastern North Carolina. "There are many wonderful people and organizations positively impacting stroke care and prevention across our state," says Jay Briley, President, Vidant Duplin Hospital and NCSA Board Member.
